An FIR (first information Report) generally lodged at police station to get
criminal or legal justice. This is treated as a fact of best of knowledge of a complaint to be lodged. This makes the duty officer to accept and forward to the concerned department to proceed for an investigation for the justice.
Points to Remember
- FIR procedure prescribed in section 154 of the criminal procedure code,1973.
- Anybody even if he/herself is not related to the case can file an FIR.
- An FIR may not go for investigation.
- An FIR can lodge by written communication, by phone, by Fax, mail or by stating the incident.
Do’s and Don’ts
- Do mention your name, address, date, time and location of the incident
- Do mention the exact fact of the incident
- Do ask for a carbon copy or a copy of the FIR
- Do not go for a Fir if it is not that serious or important
- Do not argue before police go for an investigation and submit a report
- Do not force police to do it fast or give time frame
