VirtualBox is free and open source software that lets you run various computer operating systems. Windows 8 developer preview installer is
currently available for public download from the official Microsoft Windows website. There are several virtual machine applications available for you to try Windows 8 installation
- Download and install VirtualBox on your computer
- Click the New button in VirtualBox to begin installing Windows 8
- Name your new virtual machine Windows 8 or whatever you prefer to call it
- Under OS Type, be sure you choose Microsoft Windows and then Other Windows for the version
- Next for base memory, choose 2000 MB or more
- Follow the rest of the menu prompts until you get to the Virtual Disk Location and Size menu
- Make sure that your virtual disk is at least 20GB
- Before starting your new virtual machine, click the Settings button and change the video memory to 128 MB
- Click the Start button to begin installing Windows 8 into your virtual machine
- You’ll need to give the path where to find the Windows 8 ISO file you downloaded earlier
- Accept the License terms and click Next. The installation will start in few seconds
- After the successful installation, you should now see the Windows 8 Metro UI start screen
Make sure your processor supports Virtualization Technology and is enabled. Windows 8 will not work if your processor does not support Virtualization Technology
