If you regularly use a flash drive in a computer that has many memory card readers or other removable drives connected. If you regularly transfer files
from one flash disk to another then adding customized icons to the thumb drives provide convenience in identifying the device. This tutorial will guide you through the process of adding a custom icon to your flash disk
- Plug-in your flash drive in PC
- Choose an icon for the flash drive. The icon should be .ico file
- Make sure it does not have resolution more than 256×256 Px
- Open Notepad and type command {autorun} icon = filename.ico
- Remember to replace the filename with the filename of icon you choose for the flash drive
- Then save the notepad as filename autorun.inf
- In Save As Type, choose All Files from the drop down menu
- Place both the .ico and .inf file in the root of the flash drive
- Remove your flash drive and plug it again. You will notice the new custom icon as your choice
Autorun is widely used by viruses; some anti viruses overreact and kill it on sight. So create backup for such cases
